Synopsis

Regular beatings, nights locked in the cellar. Alex's childhood in the Westphalian province was marked by his father's constant violence. Images of classic masculinity, harshness, no room for compassion or vulnerability. The only moments of peace: family vacations on Norderney. It is to this very place that Alex now travels with his father 30 years later in this documentary, to finally understand: Dad, why all this?
