Synopsis

Film captures a Pentecost pilgrimage in Vallepietra: unmarried women, or “zitelle,” dressed in white with a Madonna figure in black, journey to the Santuario della Santissima Trinità over two days of rituals, lamentations, singing, and religious performances. Key to the film is “Il pianto delle zitelle,” where women collectively express sorrow linked to religious and communal identity.
