Biography

Shahrbanoo Sadat is an Iranian-born Afghan filmmaker. Before the Taliban takeover, Sadat was living and working in Copenhagen and Kabul; since 2021 she is based in Hamburg. Her first short film Vice Versa One (2010) was selected at Directors' Fortnight in Cannes in 2011. In 2016, her feature debut Wolf and Sheep won the Art Cinema Award at the same section in Cannes. In 2019, its sequel The Orphanage was also selected at the Directors' Fortnight. Her next feature No Good Men (2026) was selected at the Berlin Film Festival.
