Biography

British playwright, screenwriter, and novelist, best known for his deep and witty explorations of the human condition. His darkly comedic work often featured academic, middle-class characters caught in emotional or intellectual crisis, told with razor sharp dialogue. "It is a curious thing, being alive... It's like living in a room with a clock that ticks the wrong time, but there's no one around to tell you." His ability to balance humour with existential despair has earned him a lasting place in theatre. His contemporary Harold Pinter, directed several of his plays.
