Biography

KARL MAALAB PAREDES is a filmmaker based in Quezon City and a student at the University of the Philippines Film Institute. His experimental documentary Concrete Conflicts (2025) is streaming on Cinemata, and he served as Director of Photography and editor for the Cheeky Things music video “Bones,” named one of 2024’s standout Filipino music videos by Rolling Stone Philippines. He is also the founder and managing director of SineSoirée, an independent community-driven film programming initiative that cultivates collaborative spaces for filmmakers to exhibit, share, and discuss their work beyond traditional exhibition circuits. Karl Maalab’s work explores the tensions of power and the quiet violences embedded in everyday life, often bending form and genre to make the invisible visible.
